The Underwater World of the Internet - Profit Hunter

Rereading the bourgeois blogs, I came across a very interesting news. (Well, maybe not news, but bearded dupe, but I heard about it for the first time).

Over the past three weeks, 5 (!) Underwater Internet routes were damaged in the Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf and off the coast of Malaysia. Interestingly, the 2nd and 3rd cables were cut simultaneously by the same ship, the commander of which simply did not notice that he did not lift the anchor in time. And this is despite the fact that the distance between these cables exceeded 1 kilometer! Due to damage to the highway (in Fig. 2, it is marked in black) the throughput capacity of Internet channels in Asian countries has dropped by 75%.

Here is a drawing that shows the entire underwater network of Internet cables connecting different countries and continents (click on the image to enlarge it). Actually, for the sake of this picture I started this post 🙂

For reference: A kilometer of such a cable weighs up to 10 tons. Its diameter is 69 mm.
