SEO answers from professionals. Part 2 - Profit Hunter

We continue to enrich our SEO worldview with simple and important optimization and marketing issues. The first part of the five questions you can read in the previous article. Today we will complete with answers this small chapter on bourgeois optimizing education.

6. Name 5 tags / positions on the page, applying them to the target words, we will get a positive impact on the search results.

I note right away that the majority of webmasters sin using these tags incorrectly. For them, at least prescribe these simple rules on their foreheads, they will still violate them. Five places where you definitely need to use both keywords and tags:

  1. TITLE (title). The article starts with a headline. If you screw up here, it makes sense to optimize the main content by 50%. Place the most important keywords (one) closer to the beginning of the sentence in the title.
  2. Domain Name (domain name). It is desirable that the domain name contains a keyword. If it does not go to pick up a clean query (single-follower), then use two-three-syllable constructions.
  3. SubDomain Name (subdomain name). Similarly to p. 2.
  4. URL pages. For the search engine, the address of the final page of the form / poiskovyj-zapros. html will be much more “pleasant” than / p? = 234 . This also applies to category names, etc. in the URL.
  5. Attribute ALT = "Text" . Applies to pictures. If the display of pictures on the page is prohibited by the user settings, then the content of the ALT attribute is shown instead of the picture. It also contains keywords. ALT adds weights to promoted requests. . Without this tag, nowhere. It is used to highlight keywords in content. For search engines, this is like a red flag for a bull. PS will give them more attention. It affects ranking.

7.write the distribution of the search query and what is meant by “fat head” (fat head) and “long tail” (long tail)?

More than billions of queries are executed every week. And the overwhelming number of them is about 70% - requests in terms and phrases that are used less than 10 times a month. More precisely, the distribution of requests is shown in the diagram. The rightmost part of the diagram (X-axis) is long-tailed requests or the “long tail” and millions of top requests are “fat head”.

  • X axis - # of Keywods - the number of keywords as a percentage of the total mass of keywords;
  • Y axis - # of Monthly Searches is the monthly number of requests.

8. Name 6 services / sources that can provide information on the number of backlinks per page / site.

  • Google Webmaster Tools
  • Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Google Link Command
  • Google Blog Search
  • Yahoo! Site Explorer
  • Yahoo! Link Commands
  • SEOmoz Linkscape
  • Majestic SEO, Blekko
  • Exalead
  • Alexa

Note: although there is many other SEO services for backlink analytics, they all receive back-up data from one or two of the above services.

9. What methods have a lasting effect on page or site indexing?

There are many answers to this question. Therefore, experienced optimizers should use their judgment and not impose (argue) it on others as true. Here are the most obvious ones:

  • Reduce or completely eliminate pages with duplicate or low-quality content (we call this “ToS”);
  • add XML Sitemap to search services;
  • use ping services for RSS feed;
  • simplify site navigation;
  • reduce viewing depth (to level 3);
  • reduce duplicate content or close it from indexing;
  • create more backlinks to non-indexed pages.

10. Name at least 3 elements that have decisive meaning Google Local, Maps and Places

What is Google Places? I quote:

With Google Places (Google Places) you can add data to Google Maps (Google Maps) for free about your company.

SEO answers from professionals. Part 2 - Profit Hunter When potential customers start searching Google Maps for information about local companies, they will find your organization: they will know its address, hours of operation, and even see photos of your storefront or products.

The rating is influenced by the terrain’s fame, the correctness and completeness of the company's data (address, telephone numbers, etc.); sources that tell more about the place where the company is located; Company name; the domain name of her site.

11. BONUS! ( faint of heart not to read ).Describe the concept of modeling in terms of SEO and how search engines can use it to improve the quality of their results?

The path of modeling development is to mathematically solve the relationship between words / phrases and determine the relevance of content to the query. Such modeling systems, as a rule, are typical models of a vector space in which the degree of “relatedness” (related-ness) is represented by the cosine angle or “cosine similarity”. Small angles are closer to each other (high similarity or affinity), while larger angles are spaced apart. For an accurate representation of a complete collection of words and phrases, related to each other in meaning, content, idea, etc., many tens and hundreds of thousands of angular sizes may be needed. Special algorithms such as LDA, LSI, LSA, pLSI, etc., are aimed at implementing such a simulation system.

Note from ProfitHunter : in the original, this paragraph is even more complicated. There are fewer words and more technical concepts. Diluted slightly translated with simple vocabulary. What are LDA, LSI, etc. - Difficult to understand (simple webmasters) ranking models and correlations with tons of formulas and explanations, and taking into account Google ranking algorithms. Here, get together in spirit and translate for you in one of special issues an article about all this. Interesting, actually.
